Authentic textures of Japanese architectural heritage

Living Room

Hashira-Kanagu (柱金具)

Neither purely structural nor purely decorative. This bronze casing acts as a ritual armor, shielding the sacred pillar from the elements while whispering stories of ancient waves and clouds through its chiseled surfaces.

By wrapping the pillar in celestial clouds and terrestrial waves, the ancient craftsmen created a symbolic barrier of water to safeguard the timber against the threat of fire. This casing preserves the tactile history of the Momoyama era—a tribute to the enduring craftsmanship that bridges the sacred and the everyday.

Kitchen

GYAKUREN (逆蓮)

A Rare Encounter of Destiny

Inspired by the Sanmon (Main Gate) of Tōfuku-ji—a gateway revealed to the world only once a year—this piece captures the fleeting essence of Ichigo Ichie (One Time, One Meeting).

As light flows through the translucent resin petals, it becomes more than a glow; it is the movement of wisdom (Dharma) and a karmic encounter spanning a thousand years. This is a sacred legacy reimagined in light, bringing the soul of a thousand-year-old sanctuary into your own.

Though the inverted lotus, or “Gyokuren,” traces its origins
to 11th-century China, wooden examples have all but vanished from its homeland. Today, the last surviving traces of this ancient form are found almost exclusively upon the temple gates of Kyoto.

One lamp, one world — each piece handcrafted in limited edition.

Its archetype rests still upon the gate of an ancient Kyoto temple.

Zen Mist Lantern
(禅霧石灯籠)

The ancient stone lantern is reborn as a vessel holding light and mist. By merging the weathered texture of stone with the pinnacle of digital craftsmanship, this Edo-period vestige transforms into a serene sanctuary of fragrance and shadow within contemporary living spaces.

At the heart of the lantern lies a hollowed core tailored to house a mini humidifier. The quietly rising mist evokes the sacred incense smoke that once drifted through ancient temples, bringing moisture and profound tranquility to the room. The moment light and mist intertwine, it ceases to be a mere object—it becomes a timeless presence.

RYŪ-UN (龍雲)

The Threshold Between the Mundane and the Divine.

This relief captures the swirling clouds and mythical power that guard the temple's sanctuary. Every undulation in the wood and every stroke of the ancient chisel is preserved through high-fidelity digital reconstruction.

KI-OTO Coaster
木霊 (の響き)

A high-fidelity specimen of Kenchō-ji's foundation. English Text: The weight of history beneath your cup. Sourced from the ancient timber base of the Kenchō-ji Sanmon—the first of Kamakura's five great Zen temples. While almost all temple foundations have been replaced by stone to prevent decay, the Kenchō-ji Sanmon preserves its original timber bases—a miracle of architectural survival.

Discover & Interpret

the subtle beauty of Japanese architecture

We do not define beauty. Through precise digital restoration, we extend the material traces of time embedded in Kansai architecture.

Meya’s House operates both as a steward of physical space and as a digital restoration studio focused on traditional architectural details.

On-site Practice and Cultural Sampling

We operate a minpaku in Japan as a base for long-term observation of traditional construction. Through on-site capture and high-resolution photogrammetry, we extract aged textures and patina layers.

Reframing Cultural Artifacts for Contemporary Use

Beyond formal accuracy, we adapt material traces shaped by time and context into functional objects for contemporary spaces.
